How Does Summer at the Library work?

Visit any Middlesex County Library to get started with one of our four summer reading programs.  These programs motivate you to read all summer long:  the more you read, the more chances you’ll have to win! While there are suggested age ranges for each program, staff will work with you to determine which program will be the best fit.

Read in Colour:

Open up your world and read in colour! When you register for Read in Colour, you will receive a booklet to take home. Each day you read, or are read to, for at least twenty minutes, mark one circle on the reading tracker. Bring your booklet with you every time you visit the library to earn prize ballots for reaching reading milestones, and to collect up to five badges for completing special activities. Prizes will vary from branch to branch. Best for children aged 2 through entering grade 4.

Power Up:

Power Up your reading with the library!  When you register for Power Up, you will receive a booklet with reading and activity trackers. Colour an icon on the reading tracker for each day you read for at least 20 minutes.  For every five days that your read, you’ll earn a prize draw ballot!  There are also ten activities to complete. Tell library staff about the activities you complete to earn additional prize ballots. Prizes will vary from branch to branch. Best for youth entering grades 5-8.

Teen Edition:

Read and get creative with Summer at the Library: Teen Edition. Register to receive a booklet, then complete the reading and other challenges listed on the form. For each challenge that you complete, you will earn a prize ballot. Two winners will be randomly selected for the system-wide grand prize: their choice of a $100 gift card or an Instax Mini 12 Instant Camera. One booklet per participant; with a maximum of fifteen draw entries per participant. Best for high school aged teens.

Adults:

Everyone aged 18 and older can visit their local Middlesex County Library branch to receive a Summer at the Library Reading Log and Ballot. Mark one icon on the log for each day you read for at least 20 minutes. Once you’ve read for 10 days and the log is complete, fill-in your contact information and return it to your local library branch.  For each completed log, you will receive one entry for the system-wide grand prize draw. Maximum of 5 entries per person.

When does Summer at the Library End?

The last day of all Summer at the Library reading programs is Saturday, August 16.  This is the last day to submit booklets or reading logs to receive prize draw ballots for all four programs.
