About the Library Using the LibraryMenu
Middlesex County Library (MCL) strives to maintain a diverse and comprehensive collection of materials that reflects the library’s mission statement: informing, enriching and connecting Middlesex County. MCL considers submissions from both self-published and traditionally published local authors from Middlesex County, to be purchased for the library's collection.
Special consideration is given to:
All books considered for purchase are subject to the selection criteria found in our Policy Manual.
MCL does not order directly from publishers or pay in advance for books. Items for our collection are purchased from approved library vendors. Our main vendor, Whitehots, adds self-published works from Canadian authors to their database free of charge. This will make your book available not just to MCL, but to libraries throughout Canada. To submit your title to Whitehots, complete their online form.
Please do not submit a review copy of your book. Donations of materials may be accepted only on the understanding that the unconditional ownership of the donation is retained by the Library, and that, if it cannot use them, the donation may be discarded.
Many popular self-publishing platforms are partnered with our digital content provider CloudLibrary. When publishing your eBook or digital audiobook be sure to select CloudLibrary as a distributor. Please note that while we also offer Hoopla to our patrons, we do not select titles for that platform.
Due to the unique nature of our Local History collection, exceptions to certain criteria may be made when an item is of significant historical value to the Middlesex County community. Visit our Local History page for more information.
